Drilling, Pressure and
Pumping Solutions

MPD-UBD and 1502

1502 was established in 2010 as an independent company offering a full range of services to the Oil & Gas Industry. When Multi Phase Drilling Solutions closed its doors in 2015, 1502 acquired some of its equipment and signed consultant contracts with its principal UBD/MPD engineers. Consequently 1502 can now offer Underbalanced Drilling (UBD) and Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) for Oil, Gas and Geothermal Drilling throughout the Asia Pacific region.

1502's principals have a combined industry engineering and operating experience of over 80 years and are conversant with current safety, legislative and industry best practices. This ensures 1502 provides cost effective and fit for purpose solutions for all types of UBD/MPD including foam drilling, air/mist drilling, mud-cap and flow drilling.

1502 can provide a "one stop shop" to support all areas of UBD/MPD projects including Project Management, Engineering, Training and Equipment Supply.

Engineering and Project Management

1502's Engineers have successfully managed numerous technically challenging projects from "start to finish" to ensure "on time" and "on budget" results. All aspects of the project are considered and resourced appropriately including budget preparation, contracting, equipment mobilisations, safety studies, work programs, training, implementation and project close-out. We can either work remotely or "in house" liaising with all stakeholders in the project including the Asset Team, Drilling and Completions, Procurement and EH&S Departments.

Rotating
Heads

Weatherford RCH

The Rotating Control Device (RCD) is one of the key components of most UBD/MPD installations and utmost care must be taken on its selection, installation and operation.

It provides a hydraulic and mechanical barrier between the hole and rig creating a closed and pressurized system, which gives you precise control over fluids flowing into and out of the well.

A specification (API SPEC 16RCD) has recently been developed by API to provide for the safe and functionally interchangeable rotating control devices (RCDs) utilized in air drilling, drilling operations for oil and gas, and in geothermal drilling operations.

Mist
Pumps

Weatherford RCH

Another critical piece of equipment for MPD and UBD operations is the mist pump.

Mist pumps are generally used for injecting small amounts of foaming agent, corrosion agent, and other chemical solutions directly into the standpipe, downstream of the booster compressor or main pumps.

It is important that mist pumps have accurate volume, pressure and flow rate measurement if designed bottom hole pressures and the intended lifting capacites are to be achieved.

When selecting a suitable mist pump care should also be given to any zoning requirements that will be in effect during underbalanced operations.

Successful UnderBalanced and Managed Pressure Drilling requires an optimum circulation rate and sufficient hole cleaning capacity to maintain underbalance with minimum power and equipment.

During the planning stage It is important to properly simulate drilling the entire interval so that designs can be modified and outcomes predicted.

1502 use an engineering software package that eliminates the shortcomings of other multiphase hydraulic simulators - predicting adequate hole cleaning and maximizing penetration rate while maintaining underbalance drilling pressures.
